They seemed to have come out of nowhere and now they are everywhere. The term beauty box is one almost everyone knows and many have tried. Whether they focus on makeup, jewelry, skin care, clothes, or even food, they offer the subscriber a chance to try something new without committing to a full size product and the full size price. As exciting as this all seems there are a few things to consider before signing up.
1.) Most Beauty Boxes require a subscription. Although they are not always annual they often require some type of commitment. If you are not interested in anything with a recurring fee, make sure to check out the requirements before signing on. And read the fine print. Even if you are only signing up for a 3-month subscription, you may be agreeing to a recurring subscription. Often times companies require you to cancel your subscription by a certain date either online or with a phone call. If you do not, your card may be charged for another month or more. Just be sure you understand your commitment before you say yes. And not all boxes charge, so look for those that let you try before you buy.
2.) You may not be able to choose your products. The idea of the beauty box is for you the consumer to get the chance to try something new but the company is offering you this at a discount, and they want to influence exactly what you are trying.
3.) Be extra specific with your profile. So many times we are setting up our online profiles and skip questions we don’t think are important or those that seem intrusive. This is not the case with the Beauty Box, or similar subscriptions. These profiles directly influence the types of products you will be receiving so sure to include everything that applies to you and your taste, your likes and dislikes. They are basing your box on what you tell them so the more information you give; the better chance you have of loving your shipment.
Even with some of the quirks involved, beauty boxes and other subscription boxes are a great way to try before you buy and to open your eyes to products you may never have chosen for yourself. Consider it like having a personal shopper whose helping you try new things and get out of the rut you may have found yourself in.
